Mdumbe surf guide
Surf: When Mdumbe has a good deposit of sand stuck to the rocks on the point, it can be considered one of the best waves on the Eastern Cape. Sucks quite hard on the outside shelf and fires off towards the rivermouth, getting ever faster if the aforementioned sand is in place. Needs a good sized S to wrap in with help from a pushing tide and rides can exceed 700m. Hollow pipes followed by steady smackable walls make this a wave for confident surfers, who don't mind the blind paddle keyhole which won't allow you to see when the sets are arriving.
Environment: Whale Rock is just to the south and works in small swell, no wind conditions. It's a Transkei rivermouth so little need to mention the possibility of sharks.
