Monte Verte surf guide

Monte Verte is a north-facing beachbreak located in the Azores, known for its quality black sand. It picks up a wide range of swells, making it a popular spot for surfers. The beach can be powerful at times, with various peaks available, especially a semi-permanent right at the western end.

This spot is best with a NW swell, but you can also catch rides with swells coming from the SW and E. It handles swell sizes starting from around 1ft (0.3 meters) and breaks primarily over sand. Surfers can enjoy both left and right waves here. The best conditions generally happen with a southerly wind and during low to mid to high tide, making it flexible for different surfing abilities, including beginners.

Besides the waves, Monte Verte features a freshwater pool nearby, perfect for rinsing off after your surf session. The spot does get crowded, especially in the summer months, so it’s good to keep that in mind when planning your visit. Enjoy your time at Monte Verte!
