Orrua is a beachbreak surf spot located near the harbour wall. It’s a fairly short wave with some decent potential, especially when the conditions line up right. Generally, the place sees moderate crowds, so you can usually find some space to catch a few waves without feeling cramped.
The optimal swell direction for Orrua is from the north, but it can also pick up swell from the northwest. The waves handle sizes around 2 feet (approximately 0.6 meters) pretty well, breaking over sand. You can expect both lefts and rights, making it a good spot for surfers of intermediate skill level. The best time to surf here is at low to mid tide, and the ideal wind is from the south. While the surf isn’t always top-notch, it can sometimes turn out to be decent, especially during the right conditions.
Orrua is not a spot that's super consistent, but it does have its moments. With a little patience and timing, you might find some fun waves to ride. Parking is available on the road, and don’t expect much in terms of beach facilities, especially outside of summer.
