Rio Coyula surf guide

Rio Coyula is a surf spot located just off Mex 200, accessed via a dirt track that leads you to a sandy pointbreak in front of Laguna Boca Vieja. It features a left and right wave at the eastern headland, which are ideal when the S-SE swell kicks in. This area isn’t heavily surfed, making it an interesting option for those looking to escape the crowds.

The surf here works best with a southeast swell, but you can also catch waves with a west swell. It handles swell sizes around 3ft (about 1 meter) quite well, breaking over uneven reef and sand. The point setup produces right waves, which is a bonus for surfers who prefer going that direction. For the best conditions, aim to surf during the low to mid tide, and you'll want the wind coming from the north for optimal performance. This spot is mainly suitable for intermediate surfers, so if you're still learning, it might be a bit challenging.

Keep in mind that the overall surf potential here is decent, with a mix of both good and not-so-great days. It's a spot worth checking out if you're looking for something a bit different, and you might just find some nice waves without a lot of competition.
