Surf: Beautiful Taupo Bay cradles a series of sucky peaks barrelling up to almost double overhead, plus some thrusting rights breaking off the southern end in strong NE swells with all S winds covered. Directions: Taupo Bay is located east of Kaitaia on the east coast of Northland. From Whangarei, head north on Western Hills Drive, State Highway 1. At Kawakawa turn left onto Queen Street, State Highway 1. Turn right onto State Highway 10. Turn right onto Taupo Bay Road and follow this all the way to the beach at Taupo Bay, then take Marlin Drive along the beach front. Environment: Gets a crowd plus there's a local surf school.
