Taupo Bay surf guide
Taupo Bay is located on the east coast of Northland, just east of Kaitaia. It offers a pretty sheltered and scenic surf spot that's not too hard to get to.
The surf at Taupo Bay can produce some fun peaks, especially with a good NorthEast swell. You might find waves that reach up to about 2 meters (6.5 ft), with both lefts and rights breaking over the sandy bottom. While it can get a bit crowded, especially with a local surf school around, it's generally friendly for beginners. The best times to surf here are during low to mid to high tide, and you'll want a Southwest wind to really make the most of your session.
Overall, Taupo Bay has its charm and can be a good spot when conditions align, but donβt expect top-tier surf all the time. It's a place where you can have some fun but also manage your expectations.
