Batu Karas Reef surf guide

Surf: Batu Karas Reef (aka Speed Reef) is a more challenging, but still fun right, around 15mins walk north from The Point. With an easy take-off and speedy, workable walls, this wave offers more push than The Point as it canters across a lava rock reef for around 150 metres. It prefers high tide, S swells and W winds making it mainly a wet season wave, however can be surfed early morning during the dry season before the SE trades blow it out. The beauty of Batu Karas is it’s adaptable to any level of surfing, although advanced surfers may find the pointbreak a little fat and slow on the smaller days. A motorbike ride from Batu Karas will lead to spots that pick up much more swell. Environment: Fairly high consistency and rarely crowded.
