Lantana surf guide

Lantana is a beach access spot located just off Lantana Road, providing easy entry to the surf. The parking is metered at $1 per hour, and the beach is guarded, making it a safe choice for surfers. The environment is nice and clean, and while it can get a bit crowded, especially during the prime season, it usually sees light to moderate crowds, which is a plus for most surfers.

The surf at Lantana tends to be average, but it can surprise you. It breaks over sand and serves up beach breaks that handle swell sizes ranging from about 1 meter (3 ft) to 3 meters (10 ft). The optimal swell direction is from the Southeast, with good results on swells coming from the East and Southeast. Most of the waves break both left and right, making it a decent spot for various abilities, including beginners. The preferred wind direction is from the West, and tides around mid to high levels work best here. On a good day, you might find waist to overhead high waves, but keep in mind that the conditions can also close out more often than not.

If you're looking to maximize your wave count, Lantana can be a good spot, especially when the N/NE swells roll in. Just be prepared for stronger currents that can sweep you down the beach. If you're catching waves on a day with strong longshore currents, consider leaving a car at the Lake Worth Pier and drifting back after your session. It’s a unique way to catch some extra waves, plus you'll find some nice reef patches and sandbars that can offer up bowling A-frames on the way back. Overall, Lantana is a spot you might want to check out if you find yourself in South Florida.
