Mahunga Beach surf guide

Surf: Mahunga Beach prefers more tide and E in the swell, to liven-up the 6km arc of fun, longboard-friendly peaks. Directions: From Napier, head north on Pandora Road State Highway 2, onto Meeanee Quay and Main North Road out of the city. Continue on State Highway 2 through Wairoa, then at Nuhaka go straight through the roundabout onto Nuhaka Opoutama Road. Continue straight onto Mahanga Road. When coming into Mahanga turn right onto Blakes Approach and onto Judges parade. Find a good peak and park up. Environment: Facilities at the north end, where there may be some other surfers. Walk or drive south for empty peaks. At its southern extent a rivermouth shapes the waves on Oraka Beach.
