Mahunga Point surf guide

Surf: Mahunga Point sees a high tide left crumble off the boulder reef at the N end of the beach, giving some long rides for improvers upwards. Prefers more water and E in the swell. Directions: From Napier, head north on Pandora Road State Highway 2, onto Meeanee Quay and Main North Road out of the city. Continue on State Highway 2 through Wairoa, then at Nuhaka go straight through the roundabout onto Nuhaka Opoutama Road. Continue straight onto Mahanga Road. When coming into Mahanga turn right onto Blakes Approach and left onto Judges parade. head to the northern end of the beach and find the left hand point along the boulders. Environment: Fairly consistent and the broken up aspect of the reef spreads the small crowds.
