Salmon Point is a surf spot that works mainly on SouthWest swells and can handle wave sizes around 3 ft (about 1 meter). It’s located near some nice beach areas, but it’s not as well known as other spots like Chickens. You can easily check the waves from the road, and it usually doesn’t get too crowded. That said, be prepared for a longer paddle out, which can be a bit of a workout.
The surf here can get some decent hollow sections, especially on mid-sized SouthWest swells, but overall it tends to be smaller compared to Strickland. You'll find both lefts and rights breaking over live coral, so watch out for that. For a better experience, it’s ideal to hit the spot with a NorthEast wind and during mid to high tides. This place is best suited for intermediate surfers who are comfortable with the conditions.
One thing to consider is that Salmon Point opens up a bit more to West swells, which can make the rights work better during those conditions. Just keep in mind the area has some live coral, so be cautious when paddling out. Enjoy your time at Salmon Point, but as always, be aware of your surroundings while surfing.
