Surf: Bar Beach regularly outputs some of the finest beachbreaks in Greater Newcastle, turning peaky small to moderate E swells into a barrel festival for the city slickers who dominate this break. Even when small and junky, the waves have enough herbs for most surfers to crack some turns. More rights in SE swells and there's the high tide Bar Reef as well, but most average surfers struggle to get a wave off the local crew. Environment: Hanging inside for the shorie section or drifting down towards Dixon Park may pay off, but then plenty of others often have the same idea.
