Surf: Merewether is the home of Newcastle surfing and the southern reef known as Ladies can handle plenty of juice with triple overhead faces in a heavy E-SE swell. Roll in, barrel, hit lip and wait for inside section to unfold. Only trouble is getting one off the pack who take no prisoners. There's lefts as well and more barreling peaks up the beach at Dixon Park. Lower tides and a little S in the wind won't hurt, while summer onshores mush it up. Environment: This is a heavy powerful spot at size for the hordes of experienced surfers who frequent Ladies and the Bombie further out.
