Redhead is a popular surf spot located about 10 kilometers north, known for its extensive stretch of squeaky sand. The beach faces southeast and is great at picking up northeast to southeast swells. It also offers decent protection from summer sea breezes, making it a reliable choice for surfers looking to catch some waves.
The waves here can range from mellow to powerful, depending on the conditions. The spot handles swell sizes from 1 foot (0.3 meters) and breaks primarily over sand. You’ll find both left and right waves, but it’s not for beginners when the swell is pumping. For the best experience, aim for low to mid tides, and if the wind is from the northwest, you'll have some solid surf. The breaks can get crowded, especially when the surf is good, but if you wander down the beach past the creeks, you'll find some less populated spots.
There are various named banks around, including Little Beach, Shark Tower, and Big Beach, which you might consider exploring. The conditions are best suited for intermediate surfers, as the power of the waves can be a bit intense when it’s really working.
