Murkle Point is a surf spot located off a rocky outcrop known as The Spur. This pointbreak is often less crowded, making it a nice getaway for surfers looking to catch some waves without the usual hustle and bustle. Access to the spot is from the lane south of the bay, but be aware that the closer lane coming from the east ends in private land.
This spot handles swell sizes from around 3ft (about 0.9 meters) and is best when the swell comes from the Northwest, though it can also work with swells from the West and North. The waves break left over the rocky ledge, which adds some challenge. It can be a heavy ride, so it’s recommended for intermediate surfers, especially when the wind is blowing from the Southwest and the tide is at mid to high levels.
While Murkle Point can handle some serious swell, it’s generally surfed by more seasoned watermen due to its conditions. Keep in mind that finding the right time to hit the waves can make a big difference, so check your tide charts and swell forecasts before heading out.
