Wishing Well is a surf spot located just around the corner from Wilderness. It’s known for its shallow right barrels that break over some sharp coral, so be careful when you’re out there. The wave is pretty much always clean and offshore due to its tucked away position, making it a go-to for surfers looking for solid conditions. Getting there is easy since you can park right next to the spot. Just keep in mind that after it rains, the road can get muddy.
This wave really needs a big swell to fire up, ideally from the NW, NNW, or N directions. It handles swell sizes from about 5ft to 10ft (1.5m to 3m), and lower tides are usually better, especially when the swell is on. With a strong current to deal with when the surf is big, you won't need to paddle far to catch the waves, but be prepared for some competition. There are a few different takeoff areas, but they can get tight real quick when things are pumping. Most surfers here will be on shortboards or bodyboards.
Crowds can be intense, especially when the conditions are just right. Be ready for some local vibes that might come off as unfriendly. If you’re planning to surf Wishing Well, aim for the late summer to fall for tropical swells or late fall through early spring for more consistent conditions.
