Wishing Well surf guide
Surf: General: This wave, around the corner from Wilderness, is a super-shallow right barrel breaking hard over irregular, sharp coral. It needs a big swell, as it's tucked up in there a bite which means it is pretty much always clean and offshore. There are a couple different takeoff areas, but they all get tight and competitive when it's really on.
Tides: Not the biggest tidal changes but lower generally better.
Size: Head high-overhead+
Wind: Northeast to East
Swell: NW, NNW
Bottom: Sand and reef
Paddling: Doesn't break far out but if the surf is big there will be current to contend with.
Spot Rating: It needs the right swell direction but offers good barrels when things come together.
Access: Park right there. Careful after a rain, the road can be pretty muddy.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Crowds can be pretty intense.
Local Vibe: Ever been stink-eyed by a sponger? Prepare yourself.
Environment: Not bad.
Hazards: Strong currents when the surf is big.
Season: Late summer and fall for tropical cyclone swells but late fall through early spring for consistency.
