Belmar Fishing Pier is located in New Jersey, right by the Shark River Inlet. It has easy access from the roadside parking along the seawall, where surfers can quickly check the conditions. The vibe here tends to be pretty chill, with the spot rarely getting super crowded since it’s often not firing. There are some restrictions around the pier and a few submerged objects from old jetties, so keep your head up while you're out there.
The surf here really comes alive with a NorthEast swell, but it can accept Southeast swells as well. It usually works best at lower to mid tides, and you can expect to find waves breaking over sand. Swell sizes can handle around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters), and surfers can catch waves either left or right. Just a heads up, it can be kind of inconsistent and shifty, so it’s a good spot if you have some intermediate skills.
When you're planning your session, the best wind direction is from the west, which helps clean up the waves. The surf can sometimes get powerful and hollow in certain conditions, particularly on the south side of the inlet, but be ready for variation since it's not always perfect. Overall, it’s a decent spot to check when you're in the area.
