The Rivermouth surf guide
Surf: The San Lorenzo River divides mid-town from the West Side. The right combination of river flow and swell will occasionally create perfect, hollow sandbar peaks at its mouth. Great rights and sometimes excellent lefts. Check it with a N or W swell and a low-mid tide. Tends to have good years and off years, depending mostly on rainfall in the area.
Environment: As with all rivermouths, be aware of rips on outgoing tides and, due to its location in the middle of town, runoff pollution can be bad when it rains heavily. Always crowded when itβs on, which is hardly ever.
