North Steyne surf guide

North Steyne is located just north of Manly Beach and is a popular spot among surfers. This beach break is known for its accessibility and generally user-friendly conditions, making it a good choice for surfers of various skill levels, especially beginners. The area can get pretty busy due to its proximity to Manly, which attracts both tourists and locals alike. It's a solid option if you're looking for a casual surf session without venturing too far from Sydney.

The surf at North Steyne is decent, particularly on a Northeasterly swell, which is the optimal direction for this spot. You can expect wave heights ranging from about 0.3 meters (1ft) to more substantial sizes, depending on the swell and conditions. The break works best over sand, creating a mixture of lefts and rights, which is perfect for various surfing styles. The beach can handle different tide heights—low, mid, or high—so you should find something to ride most times, though it's generally better with a low to mid tide. While North Steyne tends to be a bit smaller compared to more exposed beaches like Curl Curl, it does offer cleaner conditions, especially during those southerly busters.

One thing to keep in mind is the wind direction; ideally, you'll want a west wind for the best conditions. During summer, when the Northeasterly winds kick in, the waves can get a bit mushy, which might make for some less-than-stellar surfing. But overall, if you're in the area and looking to catch some waves, North Steyne is definitely worth checking out.
