Palm Beach surf guide

Palm Beach is located at the tip of the Northern Beaches peninsula. It's known for its upscale residential vibe and sits right beneath the lighthouse on Barrenjoey headland. The beach can get crowded with tourists, especially those wanting to check out the filming location of "Summer Bay," plus there are plenty of locals enjoying BBQs and boating around Pittwater. While the scenery is nice, don’t forget that it can get a bit hectic with all the visitors.

The surf at Palm Beach can be hit or miss. Generally, the waves are pretty mellow, often coming in as a mix of mush-burgers and close-outs, especially in the bulk of the beach. However, if you're looking for something more reliable, the southern corner, known as Kiddies Corner, can offer decent banks when the conditions are right, particularly during summer NE winds and S wraps. The optimal swell direction is NorthEast, and it can handle swell sizes from 1ft (about 0.3 meters) up to whatever rolls in, breaking over sand. You can catch both left and right waves here. The best winds come from the west, and you can surf at low, mid, or high tides, making it beginner-friendly.

Watch out for bluebottle jellyfish in summer when the NE winds blow, as they can be a nuisance. Parking can fill up quickly due to all the visitors, so it's a good idea to arrive early if you want to snag a spot.
