Whale Beach surf guide
Surf: Whaley would be just another selection of fun, unassuming beachbreak peaks along a crescent of golden Sydney sand if it didn't have the Wedge, tucked in below the headland at the northern end. Only appearing in NE-E swells, a triangle of water pinballs off the rocks and does exactly what it says on the tin - wedges skywards, then landwards, resulting in short, sharp left shacks. Attracts the top of food chain, so intermediates might want to check the rights down the beach, especially if there is any hint of S in the swell.
Environment: Bluebottle jellyfish in summer NE winds and bodyslams into the sand are always on the cards.
