The surf here works best with northeast swells, and you can enjoy waves breaking over sand as well as some reef action. It handles swell sizes starting from about 1 foot (0.3 meters), but you'll want to be careful and skilled when riding the waves, especially on the lefts that roll through. This spot is for experts, as the Wedge creates some intense, short, and sharp lefts. If you’re not quite at that level, you might find better luck with the rights further down the beach, particularly when there's any south in the swell. The best time to hit the water is during low to mid tide with northwest winds, which sets up the waves nicely.
Keep in mind that during summer, bluebottle jellyfish can be a nuisance due to northeast winds, so it's good to stay aware. Also, just watch out for the occasional bodyslam from the waves; it can happen when you're getting tossed around in the surf. It's a fun spot with a bit of a bite, so come prepared!
