Mona Vale surf guide

Mona Vale is a surf spot located at the north end of Mona Vale beach, known for its unique surfing conditions and varied breaks. It features a deeper, rocky bay called The Basin, which is a bit calmer until the right conditions bring in a solid swell. The area can get busy when the waves are good, but surprisingly, it’s less crowded than some of the nearby beaches.

The best surf happens with a NorthEast swell, but it also handles South swells well. Ideal swell sizes are around 1ft (0.3 meters), and the waves can break over both rocks and sand. You can catch fun right-handers wrapping around the shelf when the SE-S swell hits, and when the swell comes in from the NE-E, lefts start showing up on the other side. The spot works nicely on low, mid, or high tides and is beginner-friendly, so it’s a good place to practice your skills. When you're out there, keep in mind the best wind directions are from the Northwest for optimal conditions.

If you happen to venture near the pool, be cautious not to hit the rocks. The area is pretty accessible, but it's a good idea to be aware of your surroundings. Overall, Mona Vale has a decent variety of waves suitable for surfers of all levels, especially when the conditions come together just right.
