Summer Beach is a laid-back surf spot located right along the Pacific Coast Highway. Stretching for about two miles, it offers a mix of sand and scattered peaks, making it a decent destination for surfers looking to catch some waves. While it might not always deliver the best surfing conditions, it can surprise you with some fun beach breaks if you’re willing to explore a bit.
When it comes to surfing at Summer Beach, expect to see wave sizes ranging from about 2 to 5 feet (0.6 to 1.5 meters). This spot can really handle a mix of swells from various directions, so you might see waves coming in from the South, SouthEast, West, or even some WestNorthWest. The wave types here are mostly beach breaks, and you can ride both right and left. The wind is typically best from the NorthEast to East direction, and the tides that work well are low to mid or mid to high. This spot fits both beginners and intermediate surfers, making it a versatile choice for different skill levels.
Access to Summer Beach is pretty straightforward since it's right along PCH. You'll find that the crowds are almost non-existent, so you can enjoy your session without worrying about fighting for waves. Be mindful of the boulders that can end up near the highway if the waves are big, but overall, the environment is manageable and surfable year-round, across all seasons from January to December.
