The Pit surf guide

The Pit is a beachbreak that offers a consistent surf experience, especially when the windswell is kicking in. It works best on mid to high incoming tides, making it a good option for surfers looking for some fun waves. It's a spacious spot, so there's usually enough room for everyone to catch a few rides. However, be aware that it can get pretty crowded, particularly with grommets after school and during the summer months.

This spot handles swell sizes starting from about 1 ft (0.3 m) and can pick up waves from various directions, mainly from the West, SouthWest, and NorthWest. The waves break over sand, and both lefts and rights are available, which is nice for different riding preferences. It's a beginner-friendly spot, so if you're just starting out, you'll find it manageable. Just keep in mind that it can close out when the waves are overhead.

Access to The Pit is straightforward, with parking available off Cliff Drive. Just make sure to check the tide and wind direction — a North wind is preferable here. Plan your sessions around those conditions for the best experience.
