The hollow outside left reef at Bell Block requires a big swell and a long paddle. Beginners should stick to the beachbreak inside, which will work nicely at mid until the beach disappears at high.
From New Plymouth city centre head east on Devon Street east, then continue onto State Highway 3 out of town. When you get to the Bell Block area, turn left onto Mangati Road, down to the beach.
The reef has power to burn and a local crew ready to do the same if you don't know your onions.
