Oakura surf guide

Surf: The Oakura area is a mellower surfing environment and is somewhere to head for shelter from strong S winds, plus it works in smaller swells than some of the New Plymouth beaches and reefs. In Oakura proper there is a high tide beachbreak, suitable for all abilities and the multiple stream mouths can shape some low tide bars as well. A bombie out the back can be ridden at size. Directions: From New Plymouth head soth west on Devon Street West. Continue out of New Plymouth on South Road State Highway 45. When you get to Oakura, turn right onto either Dixon Street or Wairau Road, down to the beach. Environment: Patrolled beach with all facilities so it gets crowded in summer plus there is a surf shop for supplies.
