Ewa Beach surf guide

Ewa Beach is located just west of Pearl Harbor and offers a mix of smaller wave options, including both lefts and rights. This spot is similar to Barbers Point, which is about eight miles to the west, but be aware that Ewa Beach can be pretty wind-sensitive. The area has easy access from Ewa Beach Park through One'ula Beach Park, making it a convenient spot for surfers looking for a session.

The surf here can handle swells ranging from 5 to 10 feet (1.5 to 3 meters), with the best conditions typically arising from the south and southwest directions. On a good day, the waves can reach head high to about twice overhead. You’ll find a mix of reef breaks, which can produce both mellow rides and some decent barrels when the swell picks up. Recommended wind directions for the best sessions are from the west-northwest to northeast, and the preferred tide heights range from low to mid to mid-high. It's a wave suitable for beginners, intermediates, and experts alike, depending on the conditions.

Generally, Ewa Beach isn’t too crowded, but expect more surfers out during the weekends when the waves are fun. The local vibe is typically laid-back with minimal conflict, so it’s best to keep it chill. Keep in mind there are some hazards like reef and the presence of tiger sharks in the area, so always be cautious. The prime season for surfing here runs from around April to October, with summer being the best time to enjoy the waves.
