White Plains Beach surf guide
Surf: White Plains Beach could rival Waikiki as the best learning beach on the rock. It has lots of things going for it like fun, friendly, rolling peaks that are constantly reforming and running left or right across the flat dead coral shelf, which often has a nice dusting of sand over it. It’s a super-wide playing field, soaking up swarms of short, body and especially longboarders, spread over the width and breadth of the line-up. Small summer swells and any N winds are ideal, although outside reefs will handle much bigger, but getting there is an ordeal as there are no defined channels and this place breaks with complete randomness.
Environment: Massive parking lot fills up with families attracted to the excellent facilities including shops, shady picnic spots, BBQ pits, showers, etc. Always crowded in summer but the vibe is friendly among the many servicemen and locals who regularly surf here. Watch the current heading towards Barbers.
