Brooks Street is a well-known surf spot in Laguna Beach that attracts surfers looking for solid waves, especially during the summer and autumn months. With a picturesque location, it's considered one of the area's beacons. During large South and Southwest swells, this spot transforms from a clump of rocks and reef into a 200-yard left that can be quite thrilling. Just be aware that finding parking can be a challenge, so if you spot an open space in Laguna, grab it while you can.
This place typically handles swells from 5 to 12 feet (1.5 to 3.7 meters) and works best with South, Southeast, and Southwest swells. You'll mainly find slabs and reef breaks here, with waves breaking left. The surfing is generally mellow for paddling out, but be careful not to get caught in the shorebreak. Optimal conditions occur with winds coming from the North to East; try to catch it just right during low to mid tides, although it can handle mid to high too. Most surfers here are experts, so be prepared for a more serious vibe in the water.
The bottom consists of sharp rocks mixed with a bit of sand, so watch your step. When the conditions align, Brooks Street can serve up good rides, but on average, it can be a bit wobbly and sectiony. It’s definitely more suited for shortboards, fish, and bodyboards rather than longboards. Just remember that it can get crowded, and the local crowd is known to be on the serious side.
