Anderson Street surf guide

Anderson Street is a surf spot located in Surfside, California, and it can be a great place to catch some waves, especially for locals from Seal Beach and Huntington Beach. The area is known for its shifting sandbars, which means the quality of the surf can vary a lot. Sometimes, you can get really fun A-frame wedges, but it largely depends on the conditions and the swell angles. Free parking is available close to the beach, making it easy to drop by when the surf is on.

The best time to surf here is during the summer and early autumn when the southern swells come through. When the conditions align, you can enjoy waves in the chest-high (about 1 meter) to slightly overhead range, handling swell sizes from about 3 feet (0.9 meters) up to 8 feet (2.4 meters). It’s a beach break that can fire up nicely, especially with a good S swell coming in. You'll want to keep an eye on the tides as low to mid tides are the way to go; otherwise, you might run into some trouble with backwash or strong rip currents. Morning sessions at low tide are usually the best, since afternoon winds can wreck the surf.

The crowd factor here isn’t too heavy; while it’s a preferred spot for the local surfers who know it well, it generally doesn't feel overly packed. Just be mindful of the locals as they have the spot pretty wired. Paddling can be manageable during smaller swells, but expect a workout when the surf picks up due to the moving current. As for gear, it’s mostly a shortboard kind of place, and having intermediate to expert skills will help you navigate the waves more effectively.
