L'Estacade is a surf spot located along the port's south jetty. Although it may seem smaller compared to the more exposed beaches nearby, it offers some fun waves, especially when other spots are flat. It's a popular choice for surfers looking for a bit of shelter while catching some fun rides.
The waves here generally prefer a swell from the Northwest but can also handle swells coming from the West and Northwest. With the right conditions, it works well at swell sizes of around 2 feet (0.6 meters). You can expect mostly right-breaking waves, and the best wind for surfing is coming from the East. Whether you’re surfing low, mid, or high tide, you’ll find that it’s a spot suited for beginners, though it can get a bit choppy and full at times.
It’s worth noting that when the tide is high, there might be some backwash off the seawalls, so keep an eye on that if you’re planning your session. L'Estacade can get crowded, especially when conditions are good, so be prepared to share the waves with other surfers who are just as eager to ride.
