La Sud is a pretty chill surf spot, mainly known for being a good option when la Nord gets a bit too intense. It’s a great place for surfers who are just starting out or looking to improve their skills. The waves here are generally not too big, making it more forgiving compared to some of the more gnarly spots. On high tide, it can turn into a bit of a mess with a shorebreak that’s best avoided.
This spot favors surfable waves that break primarily to the left and right, which is nice for those working on their turns. The optimal swell direction is from the NorthWest, but it can handle swells coming in from the West and North as well. You can expect comfortable wave sizes around 2 feet (roughly 0.6 meters), making it a good pick for beginners. Low to mid tide is the sweet spot here, ensuring the waves have a decent shape and aren't too crazy.
To get to La Sud, park on Blvd De La Grand Dune, which is south of the Front de Mer roundabout. It’s an easy access spot that allows you to not worry too much about heavy traffic, making your surf sessions more enjoyable.
