Le Santocha is a surf spot located just south of Hossegor in Capbreton. It's a popular area for surfers, thanks to a surf club with 30 years of history. This spot picks up swells that can close out the open beaches nearby and typically forms nice, fat peaks. On smaller days, you’ll see a mix of beginners from local surf schools and more experienced surfers enjoying the waves. The area can get crowded throughout the year, and parking options are limited, especially on Impasse de la Savanne.
The surf here is generally consistent, handling swell sizes from about 1.5 meters to 3.6 meters (5ft to 12ft). The main wave direction is right, and it works best with swells coming from the Northwest and West. The ideal wind is from the East, and you can surf at various tide heights—low, mid, and high. It gets particularly hollow as you drift south towards the blockhaus, creating some decent drops followed by slopey walls. Keep in mind that paddling can be tough when the waves are pumping, but on average, it's manageable. If the crowd at Le Santocha gets overwhelming, there are other spots nearby worth checking out.
Accessibility is straightforward; just wind around the harbor, park by the old folks’ home, and take a short walk south. Given its location, it’s a regular site for contests, from local events to bigger competitions like King of the Groms. Whether you’re hitting the waves on a shortboard or a gun, this spot caters to surfers of all abilities, from beginners to seasoned rippers.
