Erretegia is a surf spot tucked away under low cliffs, offering a bit of a secluded vibe. It's a beach made up of a mix of sand and rocks, and it’s become a popular spot for surf schools. This place has a long walk down from the parking lot, which helps keep the crowds down, even though it gained some fame from a big Roxy contest back in 2002.
The surf here is generally mellow, perfect for beginners, especially when the swell is small to medium (about 0.6 to 1.8 meters). The waves break over an uneven reef and sand, with both left and right directions available. The best swell hits from the north-west, but you can catch some decent rides from the west and north as well. With the right conditions, this spot can handle swell sizes up to about 2 feet (0.6 meters). Low to mid tides work best, but you can still find waves during high tide, just keep in mind that they may disappear a bit on big tides.
When it comes to wind, a southeast breeze is preferable here. Just keep an eye out for some scattered rocks in the surf, as they can be tricky. Overall, Erretegia can be a fun spot for those just starting out or for surfers looking for a chill session when the waves are right.
