Le Prévent is a small beach located between two groynes, making it a popular spot for surfers, especially in winter. It tends to get crowded, with many surfers fighting for waves. The beach is known for its strong swells, and though the waves can be fun, they can also be a bit challenging for beginners.
The best swell direction for surfing here is Northwest, but it also handles swells coming from the West and North. You can expect to catch waves when the swell sizes are around 2ft (0.6 meters). The waves break over sand, which can create hollow bowls on a strong swell. You might find some steep and sucky sand-churning waves that can hold up long enough for a quick ride. Typically, there’s a left wave into the rips near the southern groyne and a more stable right wave at the north end. Surf conditions are best at low to mid tide, and this spot is recommended for intermediate surfers.
The environment can get tricky, especially at high tide, where there are plenty of close-outs and backwash to deal with. Weekends can be pretty over-populated, often bringing in bodyboarders as well. Due to the pedestrianization of the beachfront, parking can be a hassle, so factor that into your trip.
