La Madrague surf guide
Surf: With sandbanks constantly shifting around a couple of jetties, it’s hard to forecast what this one will be like. Easily overpowered by moderate swell and big high tides kill it off, but can have some crisp, fast walls.
Environment: Deemed consistent enough to run a women’s WCT event so it is often crowded.
Surf: General: This long stretch of sand north of Sables d'Or is a great spot on a small swell with excellent peaks producing fun lefts and rights at low to three quarter tide. Can be punchy and hollow when the swell picks up, but doesn't really handle too much size before it becomes a close out. Busy in the summer due to the big car park and easy beach access.
Tides: Works through the range, but gets dumpy at high tide.
Size: Waist to head high.
Wind: E, ESE
Swell: NW, W
Bottom: Sand
Paddling: OK when small, can be a hell paddle when size picks up.
Spot Rating: Consistent, fun peaks that aren't quite as good as the banks to the north and south, but tend to be less crowded as a result.
Access: There is a large car park and facilities with easy beach access.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Super crowded in summer, always busy when good - but less so than nearby breaks.
Local Vibe: Pretty chilled, but competitive.
Environment: Good, can be polluted after rains.
Hazards: Crowds, rips.
Season: Works all year but best September - November.
