Seaside Reef is an accessible surf spot known for its predominantly left-breaking waves. Located in a popular area, it can get a bit crowded, especially in the takeoff zone, but generally, the vibe remains mellow with just a few local hecklers. The reef setup provides a good combination of fun waves and manageable paddling conditions.
The surf at Seaside Reef can handle swells from the west and northwest, offering rides from shoulder-high (about 1.2 meters) to 3 feet overhead (about 1.8 meters). The left can start off steep, then flatten out before reforming into a swift shorebreak. If you're looking for a softer wave, the right off the peak can be a good option, especially if you're willing to put in a bit of effort to ride it all the way in. At lower tides, the wave can produce some solid tubes, a bonus for those with a bit more experience. The reef bottom here can take a toll during low tide, so be cautious of any face plants!
Seaside Reef works best in the autumn and winter seasons, typically offering more consistent surf. The ideal conditions occur with low to mid tides, and it’s suitable for intermediate and expert surfers looking to ride shortboards, fish, or bodyboards. With the wind predominantly coming from the east, keep an eye on the swell sizes, as it can handle anything from 2 to 6 feet (about 0.6 to 1.8 meters) quite well.
