Luscomb's surf guide
Surf: There are several excellent reefbreaks along Point Loma, site of unfriendly locals and stellar waves at the base of sheer cliffs. Steep, unsafe trails lead from the road down to the water. Best during the winter on lower tides when W swells set the reefs firing up to triple-overhead. Top spots include (from north to south): Luscombs, a thick peak with fast sections; Rockslide, more thick peaks; North and South Garbage, consistent rights and lefts; Abs, a long, chunky left custom-built for performance; New Break, a hollow, zipper-fast right with protective locals – the jewel of Sunset Cliffs, and Chasm, a tapering left across the channel from New Break.
Environment: All spots are accessible by parking along Sunset Cliffs Boulevard or in the lot off Ladera Street.
