Simmons Reef is a surf spot named after Bob Simmons, an early surfing innovator who tragically drowned at Windansea in 1954. This spot is located a short walk north of Windansea. It's not the most consistent place for surf, but when conditions are right, it can produce some quality waves that attract local surfers. Keep in mind, though, that it's known for being a bit tricky and can be challenging to navigate.
The waves here are mostly thick, barreling righthanders that break over a shallow reef. You'll find that it only really works at low tide, and the best swell directions are from the west and northwest. Simmons Reef can handle swell sizes of around 2 feet (approximately 0.6 meters), but when it's going off, it can be more demanding. This spot is definitely suited for expert surfers due to the nature of the waves and the rocky layout. The preferred wind direction is from the east, which helps to shape the surf better.
Be aware that broken boards and injuries can happen here, so it's smart to surf with caution. Always keep an eye on the conditions before heading out. If you're experienced and looking for a spot that can offer some solid surf when the stars align, Simmons Reef could be worth your time.
