Surf: At the northern end of the Carlsbad campground, just north of Poinsettia Boulevard. A free parking lot on the ocean side of 101 overlooks average beachbreak waves, best with small, peaky swells and no wind with medium tide. A good summertime alternative. Popular with tourists.
